Recently, Rukararwe opened its grounds to members of the local community for a small hands-on workshop, bringing together families to share practical skills and ideas. The workshop was part of Rukararwe’s ongoing effort to make meaningful use of the available space and to create opportunities for learning, exchange, and community connection.

During the workshop, different everyday skills were shared in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. One focus was on simple and affordable cooking, using basic ingredients that are locally available. As a volunteer from Germany, I had the opportunity to introduce a banana bread recipe, showing how a few simple ingredients can be turned into a nourishing and enjoyable treat. The recipe was easy to follow and sparked curiosity and interest among the participants.

In addition, traditional dishes such as chapati were prepared and demonstrated, allowing participants to learn from one another and exchange experiences from their own kitchens. The workshop was less about perfection and more about learning together, trying out new ideas, and strengthening confidence in everyday skills.

By opening its space to the community, Rukararwe continues to serve as a meeting point for shared learning. Even small activities like cooking together can build connections, encourage creativity, and support families in their daily lives.
