Last week, Rukararwe had the pleasure of hosting two inspiring women from Tanzania for a meaningful exchange workshop focused on widowhood, resilience, and empowerment. The visit created a space for learning, connection, and shared growth between Tanzanian guests and Ugandan widows in our community.
The primary purpose of the workshop was to learn from the experiences of Ugandan widows and to explore practical strategies for empowerment across economic, social, cultural, and political spheres. Through open dialogue and shared storytelling, participants reflected on life after the loss of a loved one and discussed ways to strengthen their roles as caregivers, leaders, and contributors to society.
Throughout the week, a variety of engaging activities took place. Workshops and group discussions allowed participants to exchange experiences on resilience and self-reliance, while field visits to community projects showcased inspiring examples of women-led initiatives, including small businesses, cooperatives, and savings groups. Training sessions focused on entrepreneurship, leadership, and advocacy further supported the development of practical skills.

Cultural exchange was at the heart of the visit. Through shared meals, storytelling, and traditional practices, participants built strong bonds and deepened their understanding of one another’s backgrounds. Special moments included visits to local families, offering a closer look into daily life, and a creative collaboration with our talented tailor, Kellen, who designed and sewed beautiful dresses for the Tanzanian guests.

The workshop resulted in strengthened knowledge around widowhood and empowerment, as well as enhanced solidarity between Tanzanian and Ugandan women. Most importantly, it laid the foundation for future collaboration and long-term partnerships aimed at supporting women and their communities.
We are grateful for this enriching exchange and look forward to continuing this journey of learning, empowerment, and cross-cultural friendship.
