With the generous support of the Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium (EBG) in Germany and the Kronshagen–Bushenyi Partnership (KroBu), the Rwanshesya orphanage has taken an important step towards improving food security and healthy nutrition. Together, they have made it possible for the children to plant their own greens and vegetables in the garden of the orphanage.

The newly established vegetable garden provides the children with fresh, nutritious food and contributes significantly to their health and well-being. At the same time, the project helps the orphanage to become more self-sufficient and less dependent on external food supplies.

This success would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the caretaker Madam Jane and her committed team, who lovingly take care of the garden alongside the children. Through daily involvement, the children not only benefit from healthy meals but also learn valuable skills about farming, responsibility, and sustainable living.

In October 2025, several partners from the Kronshagen–Bushenyi Partnership visited the orphanage in person. Their visit strengthened the close relationship between the partners and the children and allowed them to see firsthand how their support is making a real difference. The encounter was marked by warm exchanges, shared moments, and the joy of seeing the garden thrive.

This project is a wonderful example of how international partnership, education, and community engagement can come together to create lasting positive change – growing not only vegetables, but also hope for the future.

Thank you!
