Rukararwe, 2 October 2026 — Sometimes, healing begins with something as simple as being heard.

On 2 October, Rukararwe opened its doors to a special counseling and training session for young people, orphans and widows from the community. The gathering created a safe and welcoming space where participants could talk openly about challenges, learn how to cope with difficult experiences and, most importantly, remind one another that no one has to face life’s struggles alone.

More Than Just a Training

The session was not simply about sitting in a classroom and listening. It was about sharing, connecting and building strength together.

Through guided conversations and counseling, participants explored ways of dealing with grief, loss, stress and the everyday challenges that can come with difficult life circumstances. The atmosphere encouraged people to speak freely, listen to each other and learn from their different experiences.

For many of the young participants, having a place where they could express their feelings without judgment was just as important as the training itself.

Learning Through Connection

The day also brought together different generations. Older community members joined the session, creating an opportunity for young people to learn from their experiences while also sharing their own perspectives.

The gathering showed that counseling does not always have to be about finding immediate answers. Sometimes, it is about creating a space where people can breathe, speak, listen and feel understood.

When Learning Meets Laughter

And, of course, there was room for joy.

The serious conversations were balanced with music, board games and card games, giving the young participants an opportunity to relax, laugh and simply enjoy being together.

These moments of play may have seemed small, but they helped create an atmosphere of trust and connection. The day became more than a counseling session — it became a moment of community, friendship and shared hope.

A Community That Cares

The counseling and training session at Rukararwe highlighted an important message: support is not only about solving problems. It is also about standing beside people while they work through them.

For young people who have experienced loss, and for widows carrying their own responsibilities and challenges, having access to a supportive community can make a meaningful difference.

At Rukararwe, the message was clear:

Your story matters. Your feelings matter. And you do not have to walk through difficult times alone.

The day ended not only with new knowledge, but with conversations, laughter and connections that can continue long after 2 October.

Because sometimes, the first step towards healing is simply finding a place where you feel safe enough to speak.
